The Real Benefits of Ionized Water
There is more to a bad diet than the level of fat and sugar in what we consume. And as much as we are constantly reminded that our diet is bad, Americans always seem to look at it from this narrow perspective.
But I can tell you that there are other aspects of our food that can make us just as ill as the effects of too much fat and sugar in it. And the benefits of ionized water are all about tackling these other health threats that we expose ourself to on a daily basis. Let me explain…
Ionized Water. What is it?
First of all, I need to tell you what ionized water is before you can fully understand the true benefits of ionized water on your health. Ionized water is produced by a water ionizer machine after one of these units (generally countertop or undersink) has been hooked up to your tap water supply. They take tap water and put it through a special process that gives the water unique properties.
Ionizers actually produce two types of water – reduced (drinking) water which comes out of your tap faucet, and oxidized water which comes out of a separate hose leading into the sink. The reduced water is what we’ll focus on here as that is what can improve you health. The oxidized water, for its part, is a by-product of the central process inside an ionizer machine: electrolysis. This is what separates drinking reduced ionized water from oxidized ionized water, which can be used as a disinfectant.
Why We Need the Benefits of Ionized Water
So now we know what it is and where it comes from, what are the benefits of ionized water, exactly? Well, to answer that, we need to go back to what I was talking about earlier; how there is more to an unhealthy diet than just fat and sugar content. The other aspect that too few of us are considering is the acid content of the food we consume.
If eating too much sugar and fat can lead to certain health problems, consuming too much acidic food can lead to similar complications, or worse. And when I say acidic food, I don’t mean orange juice and lemons. I’m talking about stuff like Coca Cola, beer, ice cream, butter, nuts, fast food, red meat; many staples of the average American diet, which are all highly acidic foods. Eating this stuff regularly (which is what most of us do, unavoidably) has the effect of raising the acid level of our bodies.
Why is this bad? Because when our bodies become too acidic, our system goes into shock. Because these foods are so damaging to vital organs like our kidneys and liver, our body chooses to store acidic waste in our tissues instead of processing it. With all this acid waste inside, the body’s pH balance, vital to our well-being, is thrown into havoc. An acid pH balance strongly increases the risk of osteoporosis, fractures, sarcopenia (muscle loss) and kidney stone formation and leaves us more susceptible to high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, thyroid problems, cancer and other insidious conditions. All we need to do is regulate our diet to bring the acid level down. And that’s where the benefits of ionized water come in.
The Benefits of Ionized Water on an Acid Body
To combat acidity, one would assume we should use alkalinity, and that is the basis around one of the benefits of ionized water. That’s because ionized water is alkaline (above pH 7), so drinking it regularly will have an alkalising effect on our system. Ionizers actually let us choose the alkalinity of the reduced drinking water, and this is produced inside the ionizer unit via electrolysis as mentioned earlier. This process works by promoting the presence of hydroxyl ions in the source tap water. These ions are flooded into the water and they not only make the water alkaline, they also mean the water is highly antioxidant.
So if you are receiving a healthy dose of antioxidants as well as healthy alkaline liquid each time you top up at your kitchen taps, the effect on your well-being is going to be pretty dramatic. Antioxidants reducing the oxidative stress on our cells whilst the acidic level of our system is brought down to healthy levels is a recipe for good, prolonged health. And that is the real benefits of ionized water at the end of the day.
