Check Water Ionizer Certifications Before You Buy
It may come as a surprise to you but many water ionizers being sold in the United States are illegal. The Food and Drug Administration, also known as the FDA, requires that all medical products be registered with them. A water ionizer is a medical product. Therefore, all water ionizers in the United States have to be registered with the FDA. But many are not.
Water ionizers are medical products because international Food and Drug administrations, such as the Korean Food and Drug Administration or KFDA, require their certification before a manufacturer can export to another country. Once a water ionizer has Korean Food and Food and Drug Administration certification, it is considered a medical product. Therefore, if that water ionizer is exported to the United States, it must be registered with the US Food and Drug Administration.
Why Avoid Water Ionizer Certifications?
Why would a United States water ionizer distributor sell a water ionizer that is not registered with the FDA? There are a couple of possibilities. One, it could be that the water ionizer was rushed to the market and the manufacturer overseas decided not to go through the necessary steps to get Food and Drug administration approval. Many water ionizer distributors in the US feel pressure to offer the latest and greatest water ionizer. To make a quick buck and keep up with competition, they might skip water ionizer certification.
Another possibility is that the water ionizer might have problems or use cheap materials. The KFDA makes sure that everything is safe inside the water ionizer. This means food-grade tubing, safe electronics, and filters that actually filter the water. The overall safety of the product has to be approved If a cheap or unsafe water ionizer were sent to the KFDA or another certifying board, it would fail, so the manufacturer instead exports illegally.
Another reason is financial. approvals and certifications cost money. And if a water ionizer manufacturer overseas is just trying to make a quick buck, or is having financial problems, then they will avoid getting all these necessary certifications, sell as many of their product as they can, and then leave the market.
Unfortunately, many United States water ionizer distributors are not educated on all this process. They are selling water ionizers that come from shady manufacturers directly to you.
Water Ionizer Certifications to Look For
When looking for a water ionizer to buy, you should make sure that it is UL listed, Food and Drug Administration registered, approved as a medical products from their country of manufacture, and tested for safety by a NRTL, or a nationally registered testing agency such as TUV. In this day and age, it is also important to check to see if the manufacturer is LOHAS certified, what stands for “lifestyles of health and sustainability.” This means that they are using materials that are environmentally responsible and are not using child labor. Finally, the manufacturer should be an ISO 9001 certified manufacturer. This means that their manufacturing plant is safe and responsible.
There are many inexpensive water ionizers on the market. And they are inexpensive for a reason. The primary reason is that the manufacturers of these water ionizers are not getting the water ionizer certifications that are necessary. This allows for a lower price, but it also means that the product is being sold illegally in the United States and is a huge risk to you and your family. EOS water ionizers have all the necessary certifications and outperform virtually any water ionizer on the market. They are an investment in you and your family for the long term.
