Learning the Dangers of the Alkaline Water Bottle
Thousands of Americans are turning away from bottled fizzy drinks like coca cola and soda as the full extent of the impact these unhealthy beverages have on our health is revealed. Popular acidic drinks are responsible for destroying the acid – alkaline balance we all need to enjoy optimal health and well-being, so it is no wonder many are trying to cut them out of their diet.
But what are we replacing these drinks with? Step up the mineral water, zero water, and alkaline water bottle. The latter, especially, is drawing a lot of attention as it is alkalinity which we need to directly confront the onslaught of acidity. Unfortunately, this is a trap many of us are falling into. By thinking the best drink to replace acidic bottled drinks with is alkaline bottled water, we may be doing more harm than we realise, as an alkaline water bottle has its own dangers.
Why People Turn to the Alkaline Water Bottle
The pH of human blood is 7.35 to 7.45 and most parts of the body are also around this pH figure except the stomach (which is about pH 3) and the intestines (which are about pH 8). Urine, being mostly a vessel to carry waste out of the body, is slightly acidic, which is usually in order to help keep the blood at the proper pH.
This pH balance of the human body is tightly regulated and other complex systems of buffers (aside from the urine function) are continuously at work to maintain our blood pH range. However, there is only so much acidity our body can deal with and when we consume lots of extremely acidic foods like soda beverages and combine this with lack of exercise, the pH of the body can fall below 7.35, resulting in ill health.
Too much acidity in your diet is particularly potent as it leads to your digestive system to break down. This means that the body begins to store acidic waste in our tissues instead of expelling it, as our vital organs (the kidneys) are shielded from what the body recognizes as toxic substances inside of us. Storing acid waste is a vicious circle though, as acid waste clogging up our tissues further exacerbates an acidic state.
So if you drink from an alkaline water bottle regularly, you’d think that you are receiving the perfect antidote to the acidity problem, right? Wrong!
Hidden Acidity in Alkaline Water Bottle Drinks
Instead of being an antidote, lots of so-called alkaline water bottle beverages are, incredibly, acidic on the pH scale thanks to the filtration process that is used to process the water in these bottles. Often the method used is reverse osmosis, and while this cleanses bottled water of all impurities, it has the rather unfortunate effect of taking out all of the beneficial, nutritious minerals that are naturally found in water. And taking these minerals out pushes the pH of the water down towards acidity.
If that wasn’t bad enough, every single type of bottled drink finds the water inside it to be in an inescapable reality: to be sat still and air-sealed inside a plastic container. As you can imagine, any drinking liquid that is in such a state is not going to be as fresh and invigorating for the body as would be beneficial to your health. Not least anything inside an alkaline water bottle, which is supposed to be health boosting and nutritious. Stale water, even if it has been cleansed of all impurities, is not the type of healthy water you need to combat the onslaught of an acidic diet.
Ditching the Alkaline Bottled Brands
Common sense dictates that the last thing you want to be filling your insides with when trying to deal with an acid state is more acidity, inextricably, by drinking from an alkaline water bottle. Regardless of acidity or alkalinity, stale water is far from conducive to giving you any type of health benefit, and that is what you are getting inside any bottled water.
The alternative? Truly alkaline, mineral-rich and fresh water poured from your home taps via a water ionizer unit. There’s no harmful filtering process, and none of that sitting still and left to become stale business as ionized water is fresh from your tap’s faucet.
