We all know that water is vitally important to life and our own existence. Water is essential to the function of every system in the human body, so given its importance, we should be drinking the healthiest water we can get our hands on.
But I am continually surprised by how many people are stumped when asked to name the qualities of a water that can make it healthy to consume. When it comes to healthy water facts, we should all be a lot more clued up.
Sure, a lot of people will say ‘clean’ water is healthy water, but just what exactly does clean water mean? And what other properties or attributes make a type of H2O healing and restorative to the human body?

1.Water is the main component of the human body. We are composed of between 55 and 78 percent water, depending on body size. So the amount of water we consume everyday plays an important role in maintaining a healthy body. Experts recommend drinking eight to 10 glasses of water each day to maintain good health. The Institute of Medicine has determined the adequate intake of total beverage per day (AI) to be about three liters or 13 cups for men and 2.2 liters or nine cups for women. However, the quality of the water we drink is just as important as the quantity.
2.The first thing that anyone asks when assessing a drinking water is whether it is clean or not. And the cleanliness of a water is the first battle it has to overcome to be considered healthy to consume. Municipal tap water often falls down at this hurdle because of slack water quality regulations in this country. Harmful chemicals like chlorine, calcium, heavy metals, and even trace pharmaceuticals can all be found at various levels floating around in the average cup of tap water. This is what pushes many to use a water filtration system for their home (like an ionizer machine) or buy bottled water, which is cleaned through distillation.
3.Clean, filtered water is merely the qualifying attribute that a water needs to be healthy to drink. 4.Antioxidants play a major role in nature as they fight the negative effects of oxidation. In human biology, the negative effects of oxidation is the oxidative stress suffered by our cells by damaging reactive oxygen species (ROS), commonly referred to as ‘free radicals’. Free radicals that contain the element oxygen are the most common type of free radicals produced in living tissue and we need to introduce antioxidants to them to guard against their cellular damage causing the onset of degenerative disease. The healthiest waters we can drink contain natural antioxidants, and introducing them to the body through our diet is the best method around to combat deadly ROS. The sources of antioxidant water include rare glacial streams or ionized water from a water ionizer machine.
5. Most people would assume that the structure of all drinking water is the same given that its chemical symbol ‘H2O’ represents its molecular structure. This is not true. There exists types of water out there with structures that mean they are super-hydrating for the human body. The healthiest waters have this quality. They may be highly alkaline and antioxidant-rich too, but they also have a structure that more fluently passes through cells to hydrate them and all the parts of the human body. Various names have been given to this quality, such as an ‘hexagonal structure’ or more accurately ‘micro-clustering’, but what it means is that a water has smaller clusters of molecules. The final essential healthy water fact is that micro-clustered drinking water is healthier to consume than normal water.
