Please read our water problems & solutions chart below to better understand the pre-filters on this page. The Omnipure does not require a housing because it has built in adapters. All the other pre-filters require a single filter housing, a dual housing, or a triple housing, depending on how many you need to order. Three pre-filters in any combination is the maximum due to reduction of water flow.
Source Water Problems and Solutions Chart Water in the US varies Nationwide. Areas in the southern parts of the US usually have hard water 16 to 30 grains of hardness, whereas areas in the northern parts sometimes have softer water 4 to 14 grains of hardness. While the Genesis can adjust in some variations of your source water, it cannot handle all types of water, some types of water simply can’t be ionized well without being filtered through some type of water softening system. You’ll know if your Genesis is reaching the correct pH levels by using the pH solution from your hardware box. Press the #4 “alkali” button , capture a small amount of alkali water in a shot glass or comparable, add 3-4 pH drops . The water will turn (dark) purple, indicating a 10.0, 10.5 or 11.0 pH. purple result tells you that your Genesis is accurately ionizing the water and no further treatment of your water is necessary. Med to dark blue indicates an 8.5 to 9.0 pH. If you have a green or lighter result at these settings you will more than likely need to pre treat your water moderately, more than likely with pre filters. Note: The highest alkali water any person should consume is a dark blue result with the pH drops at the (9.5 pH) level #3 alkali setting. Also, if you live in the southern parts of the US, there is an abundance of alkaline minerals in the water, like calcium. This will be difficult to achieve a strong acidic pH with your water ionizer alone. To get a stronger acidic water, you will need to pre-treat your water with a R/O reverse osmosis pre filter and a remineralizing pre-filter. The R/O pre filter removes most of the scale from the water, while the remineralizing pre-filter adds soluble minerals necessary for ionization. The following is a chart providing some general recommendations. Please contact your dealer for assistance with your pre filter needs.
|Acceptable hardness (approximately 7-12 grains)||Water contains acceptable mineral content. Genesis will produce nearly accurate pH and ORP water.||No water pre-treatment is required.|
|“Hard” water (approximately 12-16 grains)||Water contains excessive mineral content that will shorten the Genesis filter life and reduce the electrolysis accuracy.||Install one to two “hard water” pre-filters along with the “remineralizing” pre-filter to reduce hardness & scale this will add soluble minerals to your water.|
|“Hard” water (16 grains and higher)||Water contains excessive mineral content that will shorten Genesis filter life and reduce electrolysis accuracy.||Install reverse osmosis filter to purify water (removes scale). Install remineralization pre-filter to add minerals to water for ionization.|
|“Soft” water (below x grains)||Water lacks enough mineral content for Genesis to produce accurate pH and ORP water.||Install remineralization pre-filter to precondition Genesis source water.|
|Excessive sediment||Water contains material that may clog/bind the Genesis filters.||Install a sediment (hard water) pre-filter.|
|Soft Water (from salt–based water softener)||Water is void of minerals necessary to ionize water. Salt content in the water may damage the Genesis electrolysis plates.||Install a Matrix/housing unit to pre filter for the (removel of the salt)|
|R/O water||Water is void of minerals necessary to ionize water.||Install remineralization pre-filter to add minerals to water for ionization.|
|High fluoride water||Water has high levels of fluoride, usually in cities.||Install Fluoride Prefilter in housing unit|
|Chloramine in water||Water has chloramines (chlorine bonded with ammonia).||Install reverse osmosis filter to purify water (removes chloramine). Install remineralization pre-filter to add minerals to water for ionization.|
|Heavy metals in water||Water has heavy metals like arsenic in water (typical in desert states).||Install heavy metal (KDF) pre-filter in housing unit.|
Note: All pre-filters are available on the Water for Life USA website & through your local dealer.
