Ionized Water from a Water Ionizer Versus Bottled Water
2011-10-26 11:24:04Ionized Water Versus Bottled Water
Why should I get a water ionizer? Isn't bottled water
just as good and less expensive? The truth is while bottled water looks
innocent, clear and refreshing, it's hiding many dirty secrets within
each bottle.
"Concerned about tap water quality," says the Environmental working Group (EWG), "many consumers turn to bottled water,
hoping to find a guarantee of safety. But the reality is very
different...; all bottled waters tested by EWG contained some chemical
contaminants..." Chemical contaminates pose a risk to all of us, but
some are more vulnerable such as infants, pregnant woman and the
elderly.
According to the EWG, Toxic disinfection
byproducts (DBPs) such as chloroform, bromodichloromethane, and
haloacetic acids, are formed when disinfectants (chlorine, ozone,
chlorine dioxide or chloramine) react with organic matter, urban and
agricultural contaminants, bromine, and iodide during the treatment of
drinking water (EPA 2008a). While only eleven DBPs are currently
regulated in the U.S., up to 600 different chemicals may form as
byproducts of disinfection (Richardson 1998, 1999a,b, 2003), including
74 DBPs that are not regulated but that may be associated with either
DNA damage or carcinogenicity (Richardson 2007). In 2002, EWG review of
DBP health effects found that nearly thirty peer-reviewed epidemiologic
studies linked these byproducts to increased risks of cancer, including
up to 9,300 cases of bladder cancer (reviewed in EWG 2002). DBP exposure
may be also associated with miscarriages or reduced birth weight, a
public health risk that is under active investigation (Hoffman 2008;
Savitz 2006; Wright 2004). Additional health problems from DBP exposure
may include rectal and colon cancers, kidney and spleen disorders,
immune system problems and neurotoxic effects (EPA 2001a; EPA 2007a;
Richardson 2007).
And if that doesn't change your
mind, the cost might. There are many costs to consider. The most obvious
is the packaging. When you think that the world consumes approximately
150 billion liters of bottled water each year - 150 billion liters of
water is a lot of plastic bottles. Only a small amount of those bottles
make it into the recycling bin, and recycling has its own costs as well.
Then you have the transportation cost. Traveling doesn't come free - fossil fuels are needed to do the work of transporting all that water. With that comes issues like CO2 emissions and atmosphere pollution.

Now, the amount spent each year (Chart shows amount for the resources to drink 2 bottles a day for a year):
Impact
Total Water Consumed: 114 gallons
Extra water required for Production and Purification: 228 gallons
Energy Required for Manufacturing: 73 mega joules
Oil Required to Produce the Plastic Bottle(s): 18 gallons
CO2e to manufacture Plastic Bottle(s): 137 pounds
Your Extra Cost for Bottled Water: $1,093.54

A water ionizer
costs $1695 as a one time fee + filters once a year. Not only is the
cost lower, but the water is cleaner and better for your health. The
water is alkaline, providing your body with the proper pH to achieve and maintain great health.

Absolutely right!I am totally agree with you that Ionized Water is very safe than the bottled water.all bottled waters tested by EWG contained some chemical contaminants which pose a risk to all of us.So I think the ionized water is helpful in all aspects. chronic actinic dermatitis
