If you come the internet, you will find many sites touting the benefits of drinking alkaline water. They are usually selling products like pitchers, tablets, capsules, and special filters to make your tap water or bottled water alkaline. You will see many claims along with these products such as balancing your body’s pH, reducing the risk for disease, treating existing diseases, etc. But don’t listen to it. Alkaline water alone is not going to make you healthier.
To understand why alkaline water alone won’t make you healthier, you really only need to look at the source water throughout the US. Source water in the US tends to be on the harder side. That means that it is naturally full of alkaline mineral such as magnesium and calcium. In the southern parts of the US, there is so much magnesium and calcium in the water that it congeals together to form scale.
If you live in Texas, Florida, Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California and many other places, your water is already super alkaline and full of alkaline minerals. But does that make you healthier? No. Statistically, people who drink the hard alkaline water in the southern us are not healthier than people who drink the softer water in the Northern parts of the US. That alone tells us that drinking alkaline water does not make us healthier.
You can also look at it this way: our diets are already rich in alkaline minerals. You get them from the meat that you eat, the vegetables, and many of the beverages that you drink besides water.
