ToggleIt’s spring again, and many of us are out playing sports. Sometimes, that means getting injured (especially as we get older). I personally have twisted my ankle twice while playing tennis. I’ve also sprained my knee playing football and tore my Achilles while playing softball. It may not seem obvious, but drinking ionized alkaline water is critical to getting healthy again and back on the field. Here’s why.
According to Craig Hospital, people should drink about eight twelve-ounce glasses of water daily when recovering from injury. This is more than what we are supposed to drink normally. Why? Because the extra water helps with muscle soreness and tension. A balance between electrolytes and water is crucial to our body’s functioning. Getting the right balance will also help our nerves and muscles!
Dehydration, on the other hand, puts an extra strain on our body that delays the healing process.
How do you know if you’re getting the right amount of water? It has to do with your urine. If your urine is clear, you are drinking the right amount of water. You are not getting enough water if your urine is yellow or dark yellow.
The most important time to drink water is right when you wake up. You should drink at least 20 ounces. This will help your body flush out toxins from the night before and heal. You should also plan to drink your two quarts of water by late afternoon. If you drink water later than that, it might disrupt your sleeping cycle by increasing the frequency of needing to urinate in the middle of the night! Nobody likes that.
