Table of Contents
ToggleMost of us shower each morning or night because we think it is good for our health. But a couple of studies have come out suggesting that bathing everyday is not good for us and when we do bathe, we should use slightly acidic ionized water. Here are the reasons why.
There are certain types of bacteria that are good for our skin. The reason being that those bacteria trigger natural antibody production that helps protect us from other bacteria and viruses that could cause harm. When we wash those bacteria away, our body does not produce the antibodies that it normally would to fight off infections.
You are skin also produces natural oils. These natural oils protect our bodies from the elements and help keep our skin moist. Especially in the winter time, the oils that our skin produces keeps our skin from drying out and becoming itchy or irritated.
When you shower daily, you are washing away all the beneficial bacteria and oils that’s your skin produces. Your unprotected skin is more prone to irritation and infections. If you already have a skin condition like eczema or a rash, showering everyday could make this condition significantly worse.
Because of all of these reasons, experts recommend showering and bathing every other day or two to three times a week.
Another point to consider is the type of water that you are bathing and showering in. If you live in the southern United States or certain mountainous areas, your water can be hard. This hard water is terrible at cleaning things because it is full of scale, which is magnesium and calcium and other alkaline minerals congealed together. When your water is too full of scale, it will just slide right off of your body and not clean anything.
The best water to bathe in is slightly acidic. Slightly acidic water, also known as soft water, acts as a natural astringent to your skin. It absorbs dirt and excess oils and the result is you end up cleaner with tighter pores.
To treat hard water, you can get a shower filter that will filter away the scale. The more expensive ones can take out most of the total dissolved solids and scale in your water and leave it soft. If you can’t afford a fancy shower filter and you already own a water ionizer, you can create the perfect cleansing water by pushing the number one acid setting. The number one acid setting is about a 5.5 pH, which is the perfect pH for bathing.
It requires extra time and preparation, but you could heat up a few pots of this slightly acidic water from your water ionizer and use it to cleanse your body. Again, this isn’t something you wouldn’t want to do every single day. But cleansing your body once or twice a week with this slightly acidic water will do wonders to clean your body and tighten your pores and keep your skin healthy.
The bottom line is that our skin is an organ with multiple functions to our body. If you clean your skin too much by showering daily, you will interfere with the normal functioning of your skin and leave it vulnerable to irritation and other skin conditions. It’s best to bathe two or three times a week and use slightly acidic ionized water from your water ionizer when you bathe.
