Is an Undersink Water Ionizer a Good Fit for Your Home?

Electronics and Filters In Your Cabinet, Faucet and Controls Attached to Your Countertop

For a long time the only way to get ionized water in your home was through a countertop water ionizer. But over the last 15 years undersink water ionizers have gained in popularity. So, what exactly is an undersink water ionizer and is it the right choice for your home?

The First Water Ionizers Sat on Your Countertop, Then They Evolved

A water ionizer needs filters and plates in order to clean and ionize your water. The filters remove all the contaminants in your tap water while the platinum-titanium plates use water electrolysis to restore the antioxidants. The first water ionizers combined the filters and the plates into a box with a spigot built into the top of it. This countertop water ionizer connected to your faucet and you collected the ionized water from the spigot on top of it.

Problems with Countertop Water Ionizers

The problem that many customers have with counter-top water ionizers is that they are big, about 14 inches tall, 14 inches wide, and 7 inches deep. In other words, they are very noticeable on your countertop! For those customer who have limited countertop space, this is an issue. It is also an issue for people who just don’t want to look at something that big in their kitchen.

How an Undersink Water Ionizer Design Works Better

Undersink water ionizers were designed to solve these problems. An under sink water ionizer takes all of the filters, electronics, and plates and puts them into a stylish box that goes underneath your sink. This box can sit on the floor of your cabinet, or it can attach to the wall of your cabinet. The only thing that goes above your sink is a specially made faucet that has all the water ionizer controls built into it. This faucet dispenses both the alkaline and acidic ionized water through two arms that are able to swivel the width of your sink.

The undersink water ionizer faucet does not replace your main faucet. Instead, it fits into the utility hole on your sink, which is usually reserved for a soap dispenser or sprayer. If you have a soap dispenser or sprayer that you would like to keep and still want an undersink water ionizer, you will need to drill a 1.25 inch additional utility hole.

How to Use an Undersink Water Ionizer

Once you have your undersink water ionizer faucet installed and hooked up to the stylish base underneath your sink, then all you have to do is select the alkaline or acidic ionized water that you want. Then you press the start button. That’s it! Like magic, the ionized water will travel through he faucet and into your glass, pot, or bowl. Your main faucet will remain untouched and fully functional. Best of all, your countertop remains uncluttered!

Performance on Par with Countertop Water Ionizers

The first generation undersink water ionizers didn’t create the same quality ionize water as countertop counterparts. These first undersink water ionizers used smaller filters, less plates, and produced a dirtier water with fewer antioxidants.

But now undersink water ionizers are just as powerful and capable as countertop water ionizers. They have just as many plates and just as many stages of filtration. You no longer have to worry about losing out on the quality of your ionized water when you get an undersink model.

The Cost of an Undersink Water Ionizer

An undersink water ionizer usually costs more than a countertop water ionizer. The additional price is something you’ll have to discuss with your family. On one hand, you can get the same quality ionized water and a cheaper price with a countertop water ionizer. On the other hand, a countertop water ionizer sits on your counter.
