An article on alkaline water was just published in the Washington Post on Friday. It was written by Christy Brissette, a self-proclaimed health guru. In it, she follows a very tired line of attack where she makes points like:
— Alkaline has no proven health benefits.
–You can make water alkaline by adding baking soda or minerals.
–Alkaline water doesn’t fight cancer.
All of this is true! We have been saying all of these things since the very beginning. Here is an article we wrote with many of the same points:

The problem with Christy Brissette’s article is that she quickly transitions to talking about water ionizers. She fails to distinguish between alkaline water and electrolyzed or ionized water. She cites two studies conducted by water ionizer companies that are not peer-reviewed and she attacks these studies. Then she fails to mention the 35+ years of peer-reviewed research that HAS been conducted on electrolyzed water that PROVES MANY HEALTH BENEFITS.
Her conclusion is to just drink tap water! Despite all the chemicals, heavy metals and the oxidizing effects of tap water, this is what she honestly recommends! And this was published in the WASHINGTON POST!!
The problem is, she is not alone. The very same style of attacking alkaline water, commenting that pure water cannot be electrolyzed (it can’t, there has to be dissolved minerals in it), attacking water ionizer companies, and then recommending tap or bottled water has been repeated DOZENS OF TIMES! Many so called reputable professionals and papers have written and published similar articles.
At first, I thought these people were just misguided or misinformed and I have reached out to many of them to ask them to correct their articles. But they NEVER RESPOND. Now I’m convinced this is a coordinated attack against electrolyzed (ionized) water and water ionizers because water ionizers are a direct threat to the current medical system.
The current medical system does not want people to drink antioxidant rich water that lowers oxidative stress levels in their cells and makes their whole bodies healthier. Why? They only make money when YOU ARE SICK.
I reached out to Christy Brissette and the Washington Post. Here is what I wrote to them. I am still waiting for a response.

I respectfully ask for an article retraction or rewrite. I have attempted to contact the author but she has not responded.
Specifically, there was general confusion in the article between alkaline water and ionized water. Even though ionized water can be alkaline (or acidic), alkaline water is not necessarily ionized. Alkaline water can be created by the presence of baking soda or alkaline minerals, neither of which offer health benefits. Florida tap water is naturally very alkaline and the people there aren’t healthier for it.
Ionized water is created through water electrolysis which creates hydroxyl ions in the water. Hydroxyl ions are a natural and powerful antioxidant for humans with numerous and well documented health benefits. This natural antioxidant is lost when water is put into municipal water treatment facility holding tanks or into water bottles. It fizzles out like carbonation fizzles out of a soda. After about three days of sitting, the water becomes stagnant.
Most Americans drink this stagnant water, which is oxidizing to their bodies. The measurement of oxidation in water can be achieved with an ORP (Oxygen Reduction Potential) meter. There are dozens of videos on You Tube where people measure the ORP of their ionized water and the results are a -ORP, indicating that it’s anti-oxidizing. In this article, there was no attempt to distinguish or explain alkaline water versus ionized water. The article also fails to mention that ionized water is a marketing term. Electrolyzed water is the scientific term for ionized water. You can go to websites like pubmed.gov and search for electrolyzed water and find decades worth of research on it, not just the two studies mentioned. In fact, the two studies mentioned were conducted by biased water ionizer companies. Why reference them at all?
Prestigious universities in Korea and Japan and the United States have done research on electrolyzed water. Even the US Military. Several professional sports teams use ionized/electrolyzed water for their athletes, including the Baltimore Ravens.
Electrolyzed water has been linked to benefiting cancer because it lowers oxidative stress in cells. It has also been linked to benefiting diabetes for the same reason. It is approved for treatment for acid reflux disease, indigestion, and a whole host of other health conditions by the Korean food and Drug Administration.
Water ionizer distributors have been battling misinformation about our products since the beginning. I believe it is because ionized water is a threat to the established medical community and all the profits they make. Hopefully, this author is not part of that community.
