Ultra-Processed Foods are Killing Us

The average American diet is not very good. We are simply not eating enough of the right things.  Also, many of the foods we eat are ultra-processed, which can cause major health problems in our life.

Too Much Sugar!

Ultra processed foods such as frozen pizzas, breakfast cereal and sodas, make up 58% of our average total daily diet.  They also make up 90% of our sugar intake, which is really bad! 

Experts suggest we shouldn’t be consuming more than 10% of our total daily calories from added sugar. But, because of ultra-processed foods, 71% of us are missing this goal!

All that added sugar increases the likelihood that we will be overweight or even obese. It even sets us up for diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Sugar can also make your teeth yellow and give you cavities!

Switch to a Minimally Processed Diet

Minimally processed foods are like eggs, vegetables, fresh meat, and fruit.  You want your meals to look like they came from a farmer’s market. They should be colorful with lots of different fruits and vegetables. Your grains should be whole. There’s a category of grains called ancient grains like quinoa that are especially healthy for you.  

You also shouldn’t be over cooking your foods. You should definitely never use a microwave because the radiation destroys nutrients. But you can also over bake your food.  frying in oil adds extra calories and fats that you don’t need and also destroys the food.

Don’t Overcook Your Food!

The best way to cook food is to steam it or pressure cook it. I personally love my pressure cooker. I can throw in green peas, carrots, some ham, and set it for about 30 minutes and have delicious split pea soup that feeds the whole family.

You should avoid eating foods that are complicated. If you go to the store and you see a long ingredients list, that’s a complicated food. If you see items on the ingredients list that are hard to pronounce, you should avoid it.

On a side note, red food dye is absolutely disgusting. The original red food dye came from mashed up beatles. The newer, more accepted, red dye comes from petroleum.  So, if you see red fruit loops, red velvet cake, or anything else that’s artificially red, just don’t eat it!

Add Alkaline Ionized Water to Your Diet

Ionized water is a great addition to any diet. Water is the substance you need to consume the most of in a day. You need to drink at least 8 oz every hour.

The quality of your water matters. If your water is acidic, it will put a strain on your body. But alkaline ionized water helps with digestion, absorbs into your cells easier, and delivers powerful antioxidants.

So, if you can make your meals colorful, don’t overcook them, and drink 8 oz of alkaline ionized water every day, you will be on the track to good health.
