Water for Life USA is celebrating its 14th anniversary this year! We have sold thousands of water ionizers to people all across the country making us one of the most successful water ionizer companies in the world. But how did it all start?
Water for Life USA was started by Alderin Ordell. 15 years ago, Alderin was studying to get his Master’s in psychology. During his internship as an elementary school counselor in Santa Rosa, California, Alderin worked with many kids who had attention and behavioral challenges.
Alderin also worked as a group home counselor. There he witnessed many more kids with behavioral challenges. Finally, Alderin led a young men’s group where he worked with teenagers who were confronting issues of identity and safety, which often led to them acting out.
In all three instances, Alderin found it challenging to sit down and simply talk. Attention and impulse control were constant problems. The kids and teenagers were distracted. It was incredibly frustrating to try to sort out behavioral issues when everyone seemed uncomfortable in their own bodies.
That’s when Alderin started to look beyond his training. Maybe there was something that was preventing these kids from being able to talk through their issues. Maybe there was something causing their behavioral problems, their poor impulse control, and their lack of attention. That’s when Alderin noticed what many kids were eating and drinking. The teenagers in particular drank a lot of soda. They ate a lot of high sugar foods. They ate a lot of fast food as well.
When Alderin questioned the kids at the elementary school, he found a similar response. For dinner, these elementary school kids were eating pizza and hot dogs and hamburgers. They were drinking high sugar fruit juices and even soda.
But at the group home, the kids ate a very controlled diet. They always had fruits and vegetables to eat. The meals were balanced. The kids at the group showed more progress in their behavioral issues than the kids in the general public!
That’s when Alderin recognized the importance of diet.
When a child’s, or anyone else’s, body is bombarded with high sugar, caffeine, preservatives, artificial dyes and sweeteners, fats, and oils, the body feels like it is under attack. A very common response is for the body to produce adrenaline, which is a fight or flight response. Can you imagine trying to sit down and study or talk to a counselor if your body is in a fight or flight response mode?
So, Alderin immediately shifted the conversations he was having with his clients to their diets. He talked to the families of the elementary school children. He lectured the teenagers who were reluctant to change but ended up showing the most dramatic improvements in their attention span.
It was all going well. But there was still a huge problem — Psychology was still pushing talk therapy above all else. Alderin was headed to a career he didn’t believe in.
One day Alderin read an article in a health magazine that stated that all the water that people in the United States were drinking was stagnant. It was sitting around for long periods of time and it had lost all of its natural antioxidants. It said the only way to drink water with antioxidants was to drink directly from a glacial stream or pristine spring or get a water ionizer.
Curious, Alderin purchased a water ionizer.
The water tasted better, felt better, and those anitoxidants made a huge difference! Alderin slept better, his restless leg problem went away, and he had more energy throughout the day.
That’s when it all came together. Alderin realized that the best way to treat people with behavioral and attention issues was to improve their diet and get them a strong source of antioxidants to detoxify their bodies that they could drink all day long.
In other words, a balanced diet and ionized water was going to help people more than sitting down and talking to them!
That’s when Alderin gave up on being a therapists and started Water for Life USA.
At first, water for Life USA was just a box of three water ionizers sitting in a rented room and a cheap website. But those three water ionizer sold quickly!
But Alderin realized that there were some challenges to these water ionizers. First, they only had three plates. They all used transformers, which produced a lot of heat and damaged components. Also, they didn’t ionize hard water in the United States very well.
For the US market, water ionizers needed to be stronger, they needed more plates, and they needed better filtration. So Alderin found an agent and traveled to Korea. He met with many manufacturers but ended up choosing EOS and IonTech to distribute their products.
Water for Life USA was the first water ionizer company to introduce 7 plate water ionizers with switch mode power supplies. We were also the first company to offer multi-stage filtration systems that could remove heavy metals and fluoride from the water.
Because of this advanced water ionizer technology, Water for Life USA grew quickly. Many companies tried to follow us into the US market and they failed because of poor quality, MLM business structures, false claims, etc. Water for Life USA has always provided excellent customer support along with the best water ionizers at a good price.
