When it comes to the purpose of water ionization, it’s all about improving health, and stopping one unavoidable destructive force we all have inside of us.
All waters and all aqueous solutions contain both H+ and OH- ions. If the quantity of H+ ions exceeds that of the OH- ions, the water is acidic. If there are more OH- ions than H+, the water is alkaline. But that is only the start of it.
An abundance of OH- (hydroxyl) ions turns a water alkaline as these molecules are a natural and powerful antioxidant. So the more of these hydroxyl ions are present in a water, the more powerful its antioxidant properties. The most important purpose of the water ionization process, which is performed inside a water ionizer machine, is to create water that has more hydroxyl ions in it, and thus water that is especially antioxidant.
But what is the connection between antioxidants, and in turn, the water ionization process, with free radicals? To understand that, we need to know exactly what they are.
‘Antioxidant’ is a term familiar to most of us, but few really know what they actually are and why they’re so vital to our health and vitality. But it is simple: an antioxidant is any molecule that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules or cells. Oxidation is what causes most fruit to discolor when cut open. It is also the process at play as a cut on your finger becomes inflamed and raw. Oxidation actually occurs in all cells in nature, including those in your body. When you cut a slice of apple, the apple cells react with oxygen, and the same thing happens when you expose cells in your body to oxygen, as in the case of a cut on your body.
This reaction produces some type of change in those cells. The cells may die or be replaced by fresh, new cells and this birth and death of cells in the body goes on perpetually, 24-hours a day. It is a cycle that is necessary to keep the body healthy. But the body is not perfect. Whilst the body metabolises oxygen very efficiently, 1% or 2% of cells will get damaged in the process and turn into free radicals. Free radicals are malfunctioning and unstable elements inside all of us. The cell damage they cause leads to disease and premature aging, as free radicals don’t destroy cells around them, they merely damage them, causing these warped cells to reproduce unnaturally.

Free radicals are unstable as they are missing an element in their atomic structure: an electron. They readily give up one of their electrons and stay stable and normal afterwards. That is just about nature’s most perfect way to fight back against oxidative stress. And the good thing about it? It can all be replicated inside a water ionizer machine through the water ionization process.
