We talk a lot about all of the contaminants in our drinking water. But much of our food is also contaminated, especially processed foods. Some of the contamination comes from the chemicals used in the factories that process food. However, the most significant contamination comes from the water used to wash and prepare foods. The result is that many foods we eat are hazardous to our health, and the worst offenders are packaged, processed foods.
A case in point is Girl Scout cookies. While we all have a very positive association with the cookies and the organization that raises money with them, the truth is nobody should eat them. According to a recent report, they are contaminated with high levels of forever chemicals and metals. This report covered all thirteen types of Girl Scout cookies sold in California, Louisiana, and Iowa.
The nastiest chemical they found in Girl Scout cookies is glyphosate, the herbicide in Round Up weed killer. Consuming it is linked to cancer, gut problems, damage to our endocrine system, and more. It turns out that 100% of all 13 types of Girl Scout cookies tested positive for glyphosate—not just a little bit, either. The samples they tested were 11,000 to 40,000 times above what would be considered a safe level!
100% of the cookies also tested for at least four of the five most dangerous heavy metals: cadmium, arsenic, mercury, aluminum, and lead. Heavy metals have been linked to cancer and brain disorders. There isn’t a safe amount of heavy metals for us to consume.
The bottom line is that this isn’t a small problem. We’re not trying to pick on Girl Scout cookies, considering that most packaged, processed foods are also contaminated with chemicals and heavy metals. But we chose Girl Scout cookies because they follow an alarming trend that connects unhealthy food to evil people and high profits. Did you know Girl Scouts sold $112 million of cookies last year? Unfortunately, all that money isn’t going to the development of our daughters. The Girl Scout CEO made $734,000! Their COO made $511,000! There are several others in the organization making over $500,000 a year. So, these dangerous cookies are a very big business, and those in charge aren’t stepping up to protect us. We might think that all of this is going to benefit our girls, but the truth is that people are getting rich selling dangerous products to us, and they are using our daughters to manipulate us.
We’re all for supporting the Girl Scouts. My daughter was a member, and she had a great experience. However, I think it’s time for the Girl Scouts to drop their cookies or at least find products to sell that are chemical—and metal-free and healthier for us to consume. It’s time for them to restructure their organization so that the money they make is distributed fairly.
It’s sad that our water and food are so contaminated, and so many people in charge don’t seem to care. But if you arm yourself with an alkaline water ionizer and avoid packaged, processed foods, you’ll be protecting yourself and your family from cancer, kidney disease, and so many other health problems.
