Not a lot of people know that the tap water they drink every day can have traces of pesticides, chemicals and even pharmaceutical drugs floating around inside it. So even before you think about turning your water supply into antioxidant alkaline drinking water, you should prioritize banishing these nasty contaminants from your diet first. From traces of Prozac to nitrates and chloramine, unfiltered water with traces of this stuff inside it is going to neutralize the benefits of using good alkaline water ionizers, and while municipal water companies do treat water so that it is “safe” to drink, they are not going to get rid of contaminants completely.
Luckily, filtration is what good alkaline water ionizers specialize in. So when you are doing your shopping for one, the filtration system that the machine uses is an important area to compare. For high efficacy, look for a dual filtration system on your ionizer. Products using single filter systems that try to cram too many stages into a small space ritually clog up, and you end up changing your filter too often at great expense. What you are looking for is a dual filtration system that is at least .1 micron, preferably more. .1 micron gives a 99.9% filtration rate, which will bring all those horrible contaminants down to non-detectable levels in your drinking water.
Another thing you may want to consider is filters that have ion resin exchange to remove fluoride and heavy metals. Most water ionizer filters do not have this, but the latest EOS Genesis and Revelations ranges do.
Many years ago when alkaline water ionizers were first invented, they used something called transformers to deliver electricity to their plates. The problem with this is that systems using transformers are inefficient as they produce what is termed “dirty” electrical currents. In simple terms, this means that if you buy a water ionizer that uses a transformer system, the internal components will be damaged over time.
Look for the better models that use a switched mode power supply, or SMPS, which produces a cleaner electrical current that doesn’t waste electricity as heat. Alkaline water ionizers which use SMPS also creates a more precise ionization, which helps more easily deliver to you the antioxidant water that you need.
