It’s 97 degrees today in Portland, Oregon. Much of California is over a hundred. It appears that summer has arrived. While the hot temperatures can mean camping trips, days on the beach and other fun. For many, it can also mean the summer blues. But did you know that the summer blues is strongly connected to dehydration and ionized water is the cure?

Extremely hot days like today are an absolute sap on our energy levels. Many of us find ourselves parked next to a fan or an air conditioner with not a lot of movement. Here’s where that can become a problem. If you have a fan or an air conditioner constantly blowing on you, it is going to dry you out. With low energy, you might also be compelled to drink an iced coffee, and iced tea, or some other iced sugary beverage loaded with caffeine.
The constant sugar and caffeine in your body can cause your energy levels to go up and down all day long. They will also mess with your body’s natural signals to drink water.
What ends up happening is you drink less liquid while at the same time you put yourself into an environment that is dehydrating to your body.
Over time, the extra stress and dehydration can effect the hormone levels in your body. They can even mess with the serotonin levels in your brain, which regulate your mood. The result is you can feel gloomy.
There are warning signs to be aware of. For one, check for a dry mouth. If your mouth is dry, you are already well into dehydration. Also, pay attention to your urination. Are you using the bathroom as much as you normally do? is the color of your urine clear or is it yellow? If it is yellow, you are dehydrated.
It is really important in these hot summer days to drink ionized water. Ionized water has much smaller molecules than sugary beverages. That means it can absorb into your cells much easier and hydrate your body. Ionized water is also full of oxygen that gives your body energy and antioxidants to detoxify your body. Sugary beverages don’t have any of these beneficial qualities.
A hydrated body is also much better able at cooling itself. You won’t feel such a drain on your energy if you are drinking at least 10 to 12 oz of ionized water every hour when it’s hot.
