ToggleMost of us don’t think about water temperature when it comes to our drinking water, but it has a huge impact. Rising water temperatures worldwide increase contamination in our water. But even cooking with contaminated water can have a negative impact on our health.
So, most of us know that we are supposed to drink filtered water and hopefully ionized alkaline water. However, when we boil water for our vegetables or steam dumplings, we often use tap water. What is the problem with this? Heating water significantly affects the contaminants present in water.
The good news is that when you boil your water, you are effectively removing Chlorine and other volatile chemicals. These volatile chemicals become steam, but there is a risk of inhaling volatile chemicals from boiling water. The same can be set in your shower. When you shower with non-filtered water, you can inhale chlorine and trihalomethane.
However, the nonvolatile chemicals remain. This includes lead and other heavy metals, nitrates, and other heavy substances. What’s worse is that the more you boil the water and it condenses, the higher the concentration of these nonvolatile chemicals. So, if you already have lead, aluminum, or other heavy metals in your water, boiling it will increase the contamination and risk to your health.
Besides humans, the warming of water temperatures also affects our environment. Warmer water has lower levels of dissolved oxygen, which can negatively impact aquatic life. There is also a higher concentration of contaminants that can severely affect an entire ecosystem, allowing some species to thrive while others die out. That’s why global warming has such a significant impact on our world.
The moral of the story is that in our kitchen, we should filter the water we use for cooking. This will solve the problems of vaporized chemicals, concentrated heavy metals, and other hazardous substances. We should also use a multi-stage water filter in our shower and laundry room. Yes, if you are washing your clothes with warm or hot water, you are concentrating the contaminants in the water that washes your clothes!
Climate change is a significant issue, but we can all do our part by reducing our carbon emissions through actions such as driving more fuel-efficient vehicles, purchasing recycled goods instead of new ones, and choosing clean energy sources over other, dirtier options. If each of us can do our part to help out, collectively we can positively impact global warming and contribute to keeping water temperatures down, allowing our ecosystems to continue thriving. Once our ecosystems are destroyed, we will soon follow!
