We often get asked why we set the pH and ORP on our water ionizers to certain levels. For example, in regards to drinking alkaline ionized water, there is a lot of misinformation on the internet. Some of it suggests that the stronger the -ORP, which is the concentration of antioxidants in your drinking water, the better it is for you to drink. So we get asked why is our drinking water level set at -350 ORP and not higher?
The answer is your body has a delicate pH balance. Your own blood is at a 7.33 pH. if you ionize your water to a level that is stronger than a 9.5 pH and a -350 ORP, chemically that water begins to change into something you don’t want to drink. For example, if you drink water that is a 11 pH and a -700 ORP, you’ll run into problems.
For one, your water is going to taste sour because chemically it’s becoming more like Clorox than it is water.
Secondly, your body isn’t going to be able to absorb ionized water that is so strong. The chemistry of that water is now too far away from your own body’s chemistry for it to be utilized. So, if you drink water that is so strong, it’ll simply pass through your body without absorbing into your cells and delivering the antioxidants that your body needs.
A 9.5 pH and a -350 ORP are very common attributes to the best drinking water in the world. If you travel to Lourdes, France and test the water out of the Fountain of Youth, you will discover that it is a 9.5 pH and about a -350 ORP. You will find the same values at other pristine springs and glacial streams all around the world. When designing our water ionizers, we use the best water in the world as the target for our machines to achieve, which makes it healthier for you to drink!
Another question we often get is if the acidic water is dangerous. No, it is not dangerous to drink a strong acidic water once. It’s just not a good idea to drink it over time. The strongest acid water from our water ionizers is about a 2.5 pH and a +800 ORP. This happens to be about the same values as soda. Soda is so acidic that it can rust metal. Your body is tough enough to handle drinking soda or drinking some acidic ionized water, but over time drinking either of those is going to rust your body.
Acidic water and soda will steal minerals and nutrients from your body. They’ll increase the stress in your cells and make you more prone to develop illnesses and diseases. So, while it’s not immediately dangerous to drink some acidic water, you definitely don’t want to drink it over time.
We set our super alkaline water level to an 11 pH and higher because it takes that strength of alkaline ionized water to break down oil. To get the oil based pesticides off of your produce, you need really strong alkaline water. When making your tea or coffee, you want your alkaline water to be a strong as possible. This is so it can neutralize as much of the acid in your tea and coffee as possible to make it healthier to drink.
We set the number 2 acid water level on our water ionizers to a 5.5 pH because that is considered Beauty water in Japan. If you put that water in a bottle and spritz it on your face, it is a natural astringent. It is much healthier for your skin than any chemically based astringent. It is also just the right pH for plants. So use that water on your house plants or even in your garden.
A lot of time and thought has been put into the pH and ORP settings of your Water for Life USA water ionizer.
