Knowing who to trust when it comes to alkaline water products can be hard going. There are myriad products and appliances on the market, and the manufacturers of each claim that their water is the most alkaline, most hydrating, purest, or simply the healthiest on the market because it is a combination of all three. But they can’t all be right.
So in order to separate the wheat from the chaff and the genuine from the bogus, it is necessary to approach alkaline water reviews with a methodology in mind. There are certain areas of all alkaline products that are key indicators of their quality and the assessment of all of these areas should ultimately decide whether or not you slap down your hard-earned cash.
The good news is that these are things that are easy to spot in alkaline water reviews and hard to hide, so making the right choice for your health shouldn’t be too hard when armed with the right info.
The first and perhaps most important thing to look for in an alkaline water product review is the information detailing the method used to create the alkaline water that is being sold. Usually, this area of information should be pretty central to the marketing of the product so shouldn’t be that hard to find.
The system used to create the alkaline water product is an interesting and important area of concern as there exists many methods, with varying degrees of success in creating the healthy alkaline water that you need. Some products even ask you to create the alkaline water by hand, which is the case with Alkazone’s pH Drops. Drops or tablets are at the low end of the cost scale as they are generally the least effective method of creating alkaline water, being as they are drops that simply add minerals to tap water. The method used in alkaline water pitchers isn’t quite as simple but again falls at the low-tech end of the scale. Pitchers or jugs simply allow water poured into them to sit in contact with minerals inside which improves its alkalinity.
When assessing bottled alkaline water products, the methods used aren’t quite as transparent. But that is not a problem as we know that virtually all bottled drinks use water that has been through the distillation process. This is the purifying of a solution by boiling it and separating the pure water from its contaminants. However, I would urge caution with any bottled water drink as distillation removes the minerals that are needed in water to keep it nutritious and alkaline. Alkaline bottle brands know this, so they introduce these minerals back into the water after the process via drops or tablets. So in this case, the method used to create alkaline water is revealed.
None of the above are substitutes in any case to electrolysis. If you are reading alkaline water reviews and the method used to create a product is electrolysis, you should be heading in the right direction to the best alkaline water for your body. Electrolysis is performed by countertop (or undersink) water ionizer machines installed in your home and they create alkaline water which has the huge bonus of being full of antioxidants, which is the key to receiving health benefits from drinking water over and above alkalinity on its own.
Another key indicator of whether a product is up to scratch is its filtration system. A drinking water can have a high alkalinity and antioxidant content but if it is full of contaminants, that isn’t good for anybody. Not to worry in this case as ionized water produced from an ionizer goes through a complex filtering system (top machines have 16 filters) that will remove 99.99% of contaminants.
The system of filtration at play in alkaline bottled water products has already been touched upon above: distillation. But as studies have shown, this can be a little too effective in it job.
Expect to find that alkaline pitchers or jugs use more simple, less effective filters compared to the other products, and that it is the more effective filters that are obviously what you are looking for.
Armed with information on how an alkaline product was made and how it is filtered, the last thing you need to look for in those alkaline water reviews is indicators of the quality of the end product. Some bottled alkaline water products may be termed “zero” as they are so empty of contaminants and, in effect, sterile, but how much alkalizing mineral drops are added to each bottle and how concerned are you about this unnatural process?
When it comes to water ionizers, you should be able to find out in a review things like whether the machine produces micro-clustered water (the best units do), as micro-clustering equals water that has a super-hydrating effect on our system and is better at flushing toxins from our body. But assessing the full picture and every key area mentioned is the best strategy for defining any worth from what is usually purely marketing material.
