Cool Weather Triggers Cravings for Hefty Meals

Cold weather is also starting to impact your dinner table. Instead of all the fresh vegetables from spring and summer, your family is requesting hardier meals at home. Maybe a ham or a meatloaf. Or if you are vegan or vegetarian, some deep-fried falafel for pita or a Beyond burger.

Between the extra treats at work, the extra treats you’re buying at the store, and the heavier meals you are eating, you might notice a couple of extra pounds hitting your waistline. And along with those extra pounds, you also start to feel more lethargic, which increases your consumption of high-sugar and high-fat foods and beverages.

It doesn’t have to be like this! One of the benefits of our modern society as you can get most fresh vegetables and fruit all winter long. The world around you you might be operating on you to buy high fat, high sugar, high oil foods and drink sugary beverages, like soda and juice. But you don’t have to. So much of our eating behavior can be unconscious. It gets triggered by holidays and buy advertisements, and then we just go along with it. The way to beat the Temptations is to be mindful of what you are doing. Instead of automatically buying pumpkin spice foods, ask yourself, do you really want them? Do you really need a ham or turkey for dinner? Do you really need that cupcake at work?

Partaking in these indulgences seems harmless and innocent. But it can spiral into major health problems. A few extra pounds can lead to more pounds, poor sleep, more stress, and really make what should be a fun time of the year quite miserable.

Follow the Golden Ration for Preparing Your Meals

We’re not saying to deprive yourself of a treat now and then completely. But make sure that your meals are 80% fruits and vegetables, 10% grains, and 10% protein. If you can keep on that ratio, you’ll continue the amazing feeling you have right now, coming off of spring and summer.

That amazing healthy feeling will get you through seasonal depression, your energy levels will remain high, your attitude will remain positive, and the holidays will be a whole lot more fun!

Don’t Forget Alkaline Ionized Water
