But five years down the road, when those parts have run out, the assembler cannot get parts without paying a high cost for a smaller order.
If the model is old and not in demand anymore, and the price for replacement parts is high, what motivation does an assembler have to support their customers? Not much. If the assembler is still in business at this point, it has already moved on to another model.
For the consumer, this means that it is going to be very expensive to repair the water ionizer that they purchased, if it can be repaired at all. Also, if the economy goes bad like it did in 2008 and 2009, the assemblers will not be able to afford to purchase parts anymore to support their products. That’s why so many of them went out of business.
