An ionized water system is much more than a water filter. Many multi-stage water filtration systems claim to be the healthiest water to drink. However, only an ionized water system is capable of utilizing water electrolysis to replenish antioxidants in your drinking water. Here’s how it works.
An ionized water system is comprised of a multi-stage water filter that removes 99.9% of the contaminants in your water. However, the water is then electrolyzed by several platinum and titanium plates that are charged positively and negatively. Depending on the system, there can be as few as three plates and as many as 11 plates. Most residential ionized water systems have seven or nine plates. Eleven plates are typically used for commercial systems because these systems require a higher production volume.
The number of the platinum and titanium plates is always odd. For example, in a nine-plate Ionized water system, five negative electrodes are connected to five plates, and four negative electrodes are connected to four plates. This is designed to produce a higher volume of alkaline ionized water, the type most commonly used by consumers. Depending on the size of the plates and the electrical system used, as much as 325 watts is then run through the plates.
The plates with the negative electrodes reduce the water, transform it into alkaline water, and also release ions that combine with hydrogen to form negatively charged hydrogen ions. These negatively charged hydrogen ions are a powerful antioxidant for our bodies because the extra electron in that hydrogen is given to unstable oxygen molecules in our cells, also known as free radicals, that bounce around and cause damage. This damage is called oxidative stress. The more of these antioxidants you can add to your diet, the more you can reduce the amount of active oxygen in your cells, and reduce the amount of oxidative stress on those cells that damages them. This process is known as detoxification.
Only antioxidants can detoxify our bodies, and only an ionized water system can produce drinking water rich in antioxidants. The systems also reduce the water, meaning that the water electrolysis tightens the clusters of the water molecules. This makes the water more hydrating to your body, allowing you to drink less while still getting the same level of hydration.
There isn’t any difference between an ionized water system and a water ionizer. The terms can be used interchangeably, but usually, an ionized water system refers to commercial systems, whereas water ionizer is more of a marketing term for residential systems. The technology is the same in both cases.
An ionized water system or a water ionizer is essential for any home, restaurant, medical office, or other location where people drink water. The truth is that tap water often sits in storage tanks for extended periods, becoming stagnant and losing its ability to detoxify the body.
