One question we are often asked at Water for Life USA is what makes the perfect glass of drinking water? Of course, a lot of that answer is subjective but there are a few points that most people can agree on.
1) Clean. You shouldn’t see any cloudiness, sediment, or particles floating around your glass of water.
2) Odorless. When you smell your glass of water, you shouldn’t smell anything!
3) Tasteless. Besides some sweetness from the minerals in your drinking water, your water shouldn’t taste like anything.
4) Safe to Drink. Most people don’t think of safety when it comes to their drinking water. Most of us assume that we can just turn on our tap or buy bottled water and it’s safe. But that’s not the case! We’re going to get into all the reasons why later in this book but for now we define safe water as water that’s free from bacteria, viruses, and chemicals.
The scary part is that contaminated water can often be tasteless in odorless. It can be dangerous to drink even if your nose and taste buds can’t pick up on the danger.
5) Cool. This is where some subjectivity comes into play, but most people agree that a glass of water should be cool and refreshing. Not lukewarm or hot. The ideal temperature is about 45°.
6) Fresh. Freshness is also something that most people don’t think about when it comes to their drinking water. For our purposes, we will define freshness as water that has been drawn from a clean source or has been treated and stored properly to maintain its quality. By this definition, most of the water that people drink is not fresh. It does not come from a clean source, nor is it treated or stored properly. Read on for ways that you can fix this.
7) Minerally balanced. The minerals in the water create a sweetness. They are also essential to our health. Some of The minerals that occur naturally in water are potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium, and more. Each of these minerals has an important role to play in the functioning of our bodies. That means that the ideal drinking water should have many of these dissolved minerals in it.
Most of the bottled water that we drink is not minerally balanced. In fact, pure water has become a buzzword or marketing term that is often used. Pure water is water that has been stripped of everything, minerals included. Reverse osmosis water filters and distillers create pure water. This technology is often used to make bottled water.
Pure water is not good water to drink. The best drinking water is balanced.
8) Alkaline. You may not realize this, but your drinking water can be acidic and oxidizing to your body, neutral, or it can be alkaline.
When you purify water and take away all of its naturally occurring minerals, you make that water acidic. It isn’t healthy to drink acidic water because it oxidizes our bodies. What is oxidation? It’s bleaching. An acidic water will steal ions from what it comes in contact with. Acidic water is strong enough to rust metal. If it can rust metal, think about what it’s doing to your body!
That’s why we believe the best water to drink is alkaline. Water can be made alkaline by adding minerals. It can also be made alkaline by water electrolysis provided by a water ionizer. It is our opinion that combining water electrolysis with naturally occurring minerals creates the best drinking water.
9) Antioxidant-Rich. Finally, the perfect glass of drinking water is full of antioxidants. Our water ionizers produce 1500 ppb of dissolved hydrogen in every glass of water, more than a glass of freshly squeezed blueberries!
To sum all these points up, the water you drink should be more than just hydration. It should be full of minerals and antioxidants that help your body stay healthy.
