World Water Day is Saturday, March 22. It’s a day to reflect on the water we drink, the water in our oceans, and the fresh water in our lakes, rivers, and streams. These last few decades have negatively affected water in all its forms. We hope that this World Water Day, you’ll take a moment to reflect on your relationship with water. Getting a premium water ionizer is a great step for cleaning water in our homes, but there’s much more we can do to protect and improve water quality worldwide.
This year’s World Water Day theme is about preserving our glaciers. That’s because 70% of the freshwater on this earth is frozen. However, last year, 600 giga-tons of water melted away from glaciers, the most in 50 years. That means our glaciers are disappearing fast, and ocean water levels are rising, threatening coastal communities. The Earth is too hot. As a first step, we have to reduce our carbon emissions to try to cool the Earth. We can also encourage our representatives to help us transition to cleaner energy sources, make our cars more fuel efficient, and reduce factory carbon emissions.
Besides glaciers, World Water Day is also a good time to reflect on lakes, streams, and rivers. In the US, there have never been more pollutants in our freshwater systems. They come from factories like Dupont, factory farms, and pollution runoff. Our municipal water treatment companies even add nasty chemicals that pollute our freshwater systems. We must install multi-stage water filtration systems in our homes to protect our families from these pollutants. Beyond that, you can encourage your representatives to improve our EPA laws and invest in water cleanup technologies to make our freshwater systems safe again. We can also purchase locally-produced food and not food produced in factory farms.
The current administration wants to roll back existing environmental laws instead of improving them. That means we all must take more personal responsibility for understanding our impact on our world’s water. If we all did our part, like eating locally and fighting factory farms, we could solve these problems ourselves.
