Soda Can Clean Toilets (Don’t Drink It!)

Soda Can Also Neutralize Skunk Odor!

We’ve written about the perils of drinking soda before. And we hope that the majority of you aren’t drinking it. But if you are still drinking the occasional can or even mixing it with your adult beverages, you may want to reconsider. Here’s why.

Soda is SUPER ACIDIC

Coca-Cola is about a 2.5 on the pH scale. 7 is neutral.  Since a pH scale is exponential like a Richter scale, your soda is roughly a million times more acidic than your own blood.  So, right off the bat, you should be very concerned about putting something into your body that is so different than your own body’s chemistry.

It turns out that soda is so acidic that it is commonly used to clean engine parts in parts of the world that can’t afford expensive degreasers. Yes, Coca-Cola can substitute as a degreaser!

Soda is also acidic enough to clean the rust spots out of your toilet. It’s actually a low-cost alternative to expensive bleach. Seriously, just drop in a can of Coca-Cola and you can clean the inside of your toilet until it’s sparkles!

Plants have the opposite chemistry as humans. While humans thrive on a alkaline diet, plants enjoy acid. So, if you want healthier plants, you can use soda as a fertilizer!

Soda Can Tenderize MEAT!

Soda can substitute as a meat tenderizer. Think for a moment how acidic something would need to be to actually break down the proteins in meat. Well, that’s soda! If you are a meat eater, you can soak your meat in soda and it will break down and become soft and tender.

Soda is even strong enough to neutralize skunk odor.  If you’ve ever smelled a skunk, you know that the smell can travel seemingly miles. Most soaps can’t do a darn thing to get the smell out of your clothes or off your body. Soda is so acidic that it can even breakdown skunk juice.
Are you feeling thirsty for a Pepsi yet?

Bugs HATE Soda

Here are some other applications for soda: you can soothe the jellyfish sting with it. You can clean your windows with it.

Bugs hate it. It’s so acidic that if you spray it on your plants that the bugs will stay away from it. the phosphoric acid in soda can neutralize the stickiness of gum. It’s great for getting gum out of your hair. If you run out of Dawn, you can also use soda to wash your dishes. Even iron skillet or frying pans are no match for the extreme acidity of soda.

Soda Can Even Remove PAINT!

Finally, soda can be used to remove paint. Yes, you can spray soda on paint that you need to remove and let it soak for a while and then you will be able to scrape it right off of your wall.

The point of this article wasn’t to give you ideas on how to use soda for everyday tasks. It was to scare you from ever putting it into your body again. Because if soda can remove paint and clean an engine, it has absolutely no business being inside your body. Again, it is nearly a million times more acidic than your own blood. Please, don’t drink soda!

I have a question. We do not drink Coca-Cola or Pepsi but occasionally drink a Kroger Real Sugar Soda Cola or Root Beer. We have been avoiding any product that contains High Fructose Corn Syrup for a few years. Do these soft drinks contain that much acid as Coca-Cola?

    • Hi Joseph, It’s the carbonation in soda that makes it acidic so it doesn’t matter if it’s a natural soda or Coca-Cola. You shouldn’t drink any beverage that’s carbonated.

Thank You for the information. Good thing we mostly drink our ionized water. We rarely ever drink a cola and we will make that small amount even smaller until we finish these last few cans .
